수술방에 들어가다

요즘은 하루가 길다. 본과 1학년 2학기(의예과 3학년 2학기엔 좀더 practical한 수업이 많다.

고작 niddle 로 스킨패드를 봉합하는 실습이지만, 실감이 확 됐다. 수술대 앞에서 환자를 만날 수 있을까. 얼마나 많은 사람들이 내 앞에서 죽고 살게 될까. 사명감과 서툶에 직면 사이에서 얼마나 나는 흔들리고 또 힘을 낼까.

직접 니들을 잡고, 시저로 컷 하는 순간 동안 집중하고서 이 업에 삶을 걸어오신 레지던트 선배들과 교수님의 얼굴을 올려다봤다. 나름 서전으로 몽골에서 탑티어이신 교수님이라 한다. 부드러운 외양이시지만, 강단과 카리스마가 있다.

아침부터 수술 이론과 신경과, 응급의학과 수업을 연달아 듣느라 심신이 피곤했지만, 수술방에서 실습하는 순간은 온전히 깨어있었다. 매일이 시작이고 매일이 새날이다. 사진 찍어준 성준이에게도 감사 감사

Lately, my days feel long. In the second semester of my first year in the medical program (which corresponds to the second semester of my third year in the pre-med track), there are more practical classes.

It was just a simple practice of suturing a skin pad with a needle, yet it felt incredibly real. One day, will I stand in front of an operating table and meet my patients? How many lives will pass through my hands, hovering between life and death? How much will I waver between a sense of duty and inexperience, and how much strength will I find in myself?

As I held the needle and made a cut with the scissors, I looked up at the residents and professors who have dedicated their lives to this field. I heard that my professor is considered top-tier in Mongolia as a surgeon. Despite his gentle demeanor, he carries an undeniable strength and charisma.

From early morning, I had back-to-back lectures on surgical theory, neurology, and emergency medicine, leaving me physically and mentally exhausted. Yet, the moment I stepped into the OR for practice, I was fully awake and present. Every day is a beginning. Every day is a new day.
