The Real of myastenia gravis
A patient who I met in the neurology.
A 2X-year-old woman was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis.
Yesterday, during my neurology practice, I had the chance to observe the professor’s treatment of a patient. The professor explained briefly, so I expected to see a patient lying in bed due to muscle weakness. However, in the office, I met a woman who was concerned about her child.
Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the neuromuscular junction, leading to skeletal muscle weakness.
She came to the hospital because of drowsiness and ptosis. She felt fatigued, but perhaps she did not expect to be diagnosed with this incurable disease. Before I studied medicine, I didn’t even know the name of this disease, but now, I can see how a patient’s life changes after receiving such a diagnosis.
Her attitude was cautious yet brave, and the professor’s was as well. During the practice session, I prayed for her with all my heart. Even though she will need lifelong medical treatment, I am sure that this disease will make her stronger.
