Yesterday, I was totally burned out all day. I expected the class to end around 3 p.m., but our professor, full of enthusiasm, continued teaching until 6 p.m. I was honestly surprised at times!
The SCORPIO session started with a health screening, where we checked basic vitals like blood glucose, ELISA for hepatitis B and C, height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, and ECG. I paired up with friends, and we role-played as doctors and patients, checking each other’s vitals. It was fun! But… my physical age turned out to be almost the same as my actual age (I was hoping for a younger result!).
After that, we had a discussion on how to build trust with emotionally sensitive patients. The professor gave us various emotional case scenarios, and we shared a lot of ideas on how to care for patients who may be struggling mentally.
During the next part of the class, the professor suddenly played the Mongolian and Korean national anthems (a.k.a. 애국가) and asked us to sing them to share our national cultures. I felt a bit weird at first, but as a kind of “prep song,” it actually helped me refocus on my attitude and presence in the moment.
We had to come up with a team name, prepare a group performance, do a creative role-play on a family medicine case, write a poem about the situation, and do a case study on a patient with multiple diseases.
From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., I was 100% focused. Even though the schedule originally said it would end at 2:40, it turned out to be an amazing experience. When I got home, I felt like a melted candle. But still—it was fun.
I tried to watch a movie to relax, but I fell asleep immediately!
