공예 전시

공예는 내향적인 예술이며, 그 중요성은 결과적인 표현의 가치보다는 손, 재료, 시간, 노동 등에 의해 쌓여진 과정에 의미룰 둔다. 이러한 가치는 작가만이 온전히 이해할 수 있는 것이기에, 관람자들이 이를 완전히 이해하는 것은 어려울 수밖에 없다. 이러한 이유로, 공예는 전시를 하면 할수록 불가피하게 미술로의 편입이 이루어진다.

이러한 구조를 변화시키기 위해, 공예를 바라보는 시각과 이를 관람하는 방식 또한 달라져야 한다고 믿는다. 공예 작품을 단순히 전시하는 것이 아니라, 작가의 생각과 감정을 경험할 수 있는 방식으로 관객에게 제공해야 한다. 그러나, 이것이 작가가 작업을 하며 경험하는 공예적 경험과는 다를 수 밖에 없기에, 이를 전시와 어떻게 연결할 수 있을지에 대한 고민하고있다.

Craftsmanship is an introspective art, where its importance lies not in the value of the end result, but in the process accrued by hands, materials, time, and labor. This value is something that only the artist can fully comprehend, which invariably makes it difficult for viewers to fully understand. For this reason, as more craft exhibitions are held, they are inevitably incorporated into fine arts.

To change this structure, I believe our perspective on crafts and how we view them also needs to change. Instead of merely exhibiting craft pieces, we should provide the audience with ways to experience the artist's thoughts and emotions. However, this experience will undoubtedly differ from the crafting experience the artist undergoes during their work, leading me to ponder how to connect this with the exhibition.
