뉘 칼스버그 조각박물관(Ny Calsberg Glyptotek)
여행을 하면서 박물관을 들르는 건 평소 먹던 음식에 아주 특별히 맛난 소스를 곁들이는 그런 느낌이다. 아무튼 아이슬란드를 가거나 북유럽 다른 곳을 찾아가기 위해 가끔씩 코펜하겐을 거치는 경우가 있다. 간혹 코펜하겐에서 반나절의 시간을 보내야 할 때가 있다. 그냥 공항에서 기다리기보다 가차를 타고 시내에 나와 역 앞에 있는 ‘뉘 칼스버그 박물관’을 찾으면 아주 좋다.
덴마크의 유명 맥주 칼스버그를 만든 창립자의 아들 칼 야콥 센은 대단한 수집광이다. 그가 만든 박물관을 보면 그 진가를 알 수가 있다. 박물관에는 고대와 현대 예술 작품들을 적지 않게 모아놓았다. 특히 이집트 유물들을 비롯해 현대 미술작품들, 특히 조각품들과 회화작품들 만여 점을 보유하고 있어 개인 박물관 치고는 그 규모가 엄청나다.
뿐만 아니라 덴마크와 프랑스 미술품들과 조각 작품들도 볼 수 있다. 또한 지중해에 인접한 나라들의 유물들까지 모아놓은 것을 보면 대단하다는 생각이 든다. 그런데 문득 개인 작품들을 제외한 오래된 유물들과 문화재, 특히 이집트와 지중해 연안의 유물들은 모두 돌려주어야 하는 게 맞는 게 아난가라는 생각이 드는 건 나만의 생각일까?
어쨌든, 지면 관계상 모두 보여드릴 수는 없지만 여기 올린 작품들은 그중에서도 주로 우리가 익히 들어 알고 있는 소위 유명화가들 회화를 중심으로 선별했다. 그리고 교과서에서 볼 수 있는 작품들도 있으니 잠시 감상을 해보는 즐거움을 만끽하시기를 바란다. 작품들은 1부 회화 편과 2부 조각 작품으로 나누어 정리를 했다.
