  Chinese astrology is best known for its use of animal signs designated by year. There are twelve animal signs in total: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, pig.

 These animals signs are thought to decide a peron's character, relationship, finacial success, and even how long he or she will live.

  Unlike Western astrology, which is limited to personal consultation, Chinese astrology is used to study the overall human condition and to predict the future and destiny of all humanity.

 In China, astrology is a much repected art form that is based on ancient texts. According to Chinese legend, the order of the twelve signs was decided by Buddha himself. Buddha is said to have determine this order according to the sucession in which the twelve animals arrived at a meeting he had called.

 중국 점성학은 해마다 정해진 동물을 사용하는 것으로 알려져 있다.

 총 12마리의 동물: 쥐(子), 소(丑), 호랑이(寅), 토끼(卯), 용(辰), 뱀(蛇;巳), 말(午), 양(未), 원숭이(申), 닭(酉), 개(戌), 돼지(亥)이다.

 동물들은 한 사람의 인격, 대인관계, 경제적 성공, 심지어 얼마나 오래사는지도 결정한다고 여겨진다.

 서양점성술과 달리 중국 점성학은 총체적으로 인류를 연구하고 모든 인류의 미래와 운명을 예측하는데 사용된다. 중국에서 천문학은 고대 문헌을 기반으로 하여 권위있는 학술 형태이다.  중국전설에 따르면 12마리의 동물 상징순서는 부처에 의해 정해졌다고 한다. 부처가 소집한 회의에 도착한 순서에 따라 그 순서를 결정했다고 한다.
