en route to Seoul

15+ hours from Pearson

by Peter Shin Toronto

I had the good fortune of being seated next to a delightful couple celebrating their 3rd wedding anniversary. What could have been a marathon 15+ hour flight turned into a breezy conversation-filled journey.

Thanks, guys, for turning a long-haul flight into a short-haul joyride. You two should come with a complimentary upgrade!

Jenny shared a remarkable and personal story—she was tracing her grandfather’s steps in Korea during and after the Korean War, where he served as part of the Canadian UN troops. As she pulled out the old photos she carried, we were momentarily transported back to a time of hardship and resilience. The faded images gave us a glimpse of the heavy toll of war, a tragic chapter in history that still lingers in the memories of those who lived it. Yet, in that moment, amidst the clouds and cabin chatter, it was moving to see how one family continues to honor and retrace their connection to a place shaped by such history. It's not every day you sit next to someone whose personal story spans continents and decades—it definitely made the flight feel shorter, and far more meaningful.

Back home safe.. finally.

Zzzzzzz... like a dead body... zzzzZ...

Next morning with dad.

해장국 might just be the ultimate cure—not only for the morning after, but also for knocking out jet lag. Who knew a hearty bowl of soup could reset both your stomach and your time zone? Dad ordered additional 4 portions of the soup for takeout.

@ Starbuks. Grande Dark Roast with 3 sugars and some milk was for him. Mine was just a black.

Bye for now.
