XV 大暑 [1] / [13]
One day in the morning, Alexander’s phone rang noisily. It was Ed.
"Alex, is Violet there?"
He asked as soon as Alexander took up the phone. He spoke again not waiting for Alexander's answer.
"I heard of the video Violet sent to you. This is all nonsense. You, you don't trust what the bastard is saying on the video, do you?"
it seemed that Ed was extremely angry.
"You never made anybody do anything like that to her, that's what you mean?"
Alternatively, the questioning voice of Alexander was calm.
"What on earth are you talking about? Of course not! Damn it, what an unimaginable bitch! Is she there? At your home?"
Ed's voice was so loud it was as if he was trying to break through the receiver.
"Take it easy. I can't tell you where she is. Anyway, she has extreme anxiety. I need―"
"She is lying! Don't you know her at all?"
Ed spoke desperately.
He didn’t wait for Alexander’s reply and hung up. Alexander stared at the blank screen. He heard a knock at his door. It was Violet. She showed him messages being sent continuously to her phone. It must be Ed.
<Answer the phone, you bitch!>
<You ever dare to try to entrap me, I'm not gonna let you live in peace, do you understand me?>
<I will cast you in jail by false charges, remember it.>
<You're the most awful witch I've ever met. EVER!>
Alexander didn't know who to trust here, but he knew his gut was usually correct. Ed was definitely a flawed person, but his denial was very specific and emphatic, and lacking any wishy-washy attempts to find wiggle room; he was telling the truth. At least that's what his gut told him.
He didn't trust Violet at all, especially after what she did to him last night. Sneaking into his room, taking advantage of him as he slept. If he didn't stop her, he might have given in fully and . . . No, he wouldn't do that. He and Violet were through.
He didn't know what happened to her for sure, but one thing was certain: Violet may have been a victim of something, but she wasn't merely a victim. Something didn't smell right, and until Alexander could figure out exactly what was going on, he made the decision to keep Violet at a healthy distance.
He was going to have to call Ed back, and set up a meeting to speak to him face to face. On one hand, he didn't want Violet to know about it if they met up, and, on the other, he wanted to give Ed time to cool off. He was obviously in a heightened emotional state right now, and a face-to-face meeting also carried the added benefit of making it a lot harder for Ed to just leave the conversation.
You can't hang up on someone in real life, thought Alexander.
