秋分 [6] / [6]
"From that rape video and Ed's evil deeds against her, you should extract sufficient statements from her for a thorough investigation. The more she reveals, the better cards we'll have to play to discover the truth. Got it?"
she asked him.
That reminded him that she is his boss. He didn't know what to say.
"I trust you,"
she added, observing his face. He couldn’t say a word.
She continued,
"I cannot be sure as to how many times Violet will try to call you out. And it's kind of obvious she would not tell you anything if you were accompanied by someone else. Which means, you should meet her, only the two of you. In my position, it's like I have a very nasty card to play."
Alexander couldn't refute her.
"That is to say, I will willingly be used until you get enough information from her. Then we will attack her in reverse, when she's no longer has any leverage left to hold over us,"
she said coldly.
"Honey . . . "
"I trust you,”
Cynthia repeated again, as if not to tell him, but rather to herself.
He stood up, and hugged her firmly.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I know that I should not . . . ”
he couldn't continue.
"I forgave you,"
Cynthia told him.
“I need to get some rest. I will see you when you come back,”
she said.
She went into the room and closed the door. Alexander just stood still, staring as the door closed. He approached the door. He raised his palm as if to tap it, but he gave up.
For the rest of my life, I will do my best to do right by her, once I finish all of this, he thought. He really meant it. Even though that time was not now, he would do so eventually.
Anyway, they were still young, still had countless days to be with each other, decades more, at least. That was what he thought while he left the house to meet Violet, who was waiting for him now.
