As Alexander walked on, trying to take everything in, he noted the shops and boutiques; a fair few of them with French and German-sounding names that he couldn’t even hope to pronounce. It seemed like this place had everything, and all on the same floor: high-end electronics, designer clothing, cosmetics and beauty, a salon, and even a Tesla store stocked with several display vehicles.
He walked into one of the few clothing boutiques that he could pronounce, looked around, and chuckled to himself, shaking his head. That store had everything a young, wealthy man or woman could want for a night on the town, or even a casual evening in, but the cheapest thing there was an $80 pair of socks. He was out of his element for sure, but, Alexander had to admit, the place was something else.
One part of the store was built up to look like Mt. Everest― hell, they even had fake snow and mannequins dressed as sherpas next to the climbing and extreme weather gear―while another looked like Beach Town USA, and another still resembled Paris in miniature, complete with a little Eiffel Tower and overpriced European sweaters. Alexander walked out, turned left, and headed towards the stairwell.
The staircase, like the floor, was made entirely of polished marble, with gold and wooden banisters that looked just as immaculately maintained. It reminded Alexander of a museum, and, just as he had finished that thought, he crested the last step and walked into an actual visiting museum exhibit that occupied the entire top floor. It was dark, dimly lit, but with a relaxing ambience.
It was also quiet, with very few people, the only noise coming from some of the exhibitions―which focussed on Pterosaurs and other avian dinosaurs―and the sounds of his shoes echoing against the marble. He made his way through the exhibit and came to a well-lit room, complete with antique furniture reminiscent of a Victorian sitting room, and two large wooden doors that led to an outside patio.
Alexander walked outside, and took everything in. He felt like he was just transported to Waikiki. Comfortable, well-padded wicker furniture, along with hammocks, took up the bulk of the space around the edges and central areas of the rooftop, where a bar, flanked with tropical plants and right in the middle of everything, was mocked up to look like a beach hut.
There were a few people there, but it was still quiet. Alexander ordered a gin and tonic, sat back in one of the wicker chairs near the edge of the roof top, took a sip of his drink, and closed his eyes, waiting for the sunset. Dinner sucked. But he was determined to make the most of this evening.
