She didn't appear until he read through one-third of the book. He got up, and left his book on the desk to buy some coffee. When he passed the entrance door, he saw a man and a woman. The woman undoubtedly was Natalie, and she was walking behind the man. She didn't seem to notice Alexander.
Alexander stopped. He wondered whether he ought to follow them or not. If she had a boyfriend ('Why didn't I ask her about that beforehand? How stupid,' he blamed himself.) he resolved that he wouldn't bother her anymore. He would clearly have to stop. But he wanted to make sure before giving up on her entirely; a love that wouldn't get a chance to get off the ground. He decided to follow them from further behind.
They went to the rooftop. Alexander peeped at them slyly from the door. They were standing shoulder to shoulder maintaining a distance of about 2 feet, watching the starry sky that looked quite lovely that night. When the man began to speak, Alexander felt a bitter feeling almost rise from the pit of his stomach. He spoke a language Alexander didn't know at all. But he could understand the gestures. He couldn't stop observing her, even though he felt guilty about spying on Natalie without her permission.

The man spoke again, but in a quiet and reserved tone that Alexander could barely hear.
