That’s Why There’s a Law Like This

There are tons of laws in South Korea. However, many of them aren’t well known. Let’s look at some typical laws that I didn’t know before I read this book.

First of all, I didn’t know that if we play music in our store, we have to pay royalties! Playing music for other people without paying a copyright fee can be punished. However, there are exceptions. Royalties last until 70 years after the composer’s death. So, playing classical music doesn’t matter at all. The copyright fee is only 4,000 won to 60,000 won, so I think we can just pay and use it. I completely didn’t know about this law. Maybe I should tell my mom about it!

Second, I didn’t know that we should not pick up acorns and ginkgo nuts. Why? It’s because acorn and ginkgo nut trees belong to the city. So, we shouldn’t pick them up. If you damage a tree while shaking it for nuts or berries, you can be sentenced to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won! Before I read this book, I picked up acorns when I was 9. I will never pick them up again!

This book gave me some background knowledge. Also, there are many laws that I didn’t know before. Especially, the law about copyright fees was unique to me. I want to investigate many unique and unknown laws to make a quiz for my friends!
