War in Afghanistan

20 years for nothing

by 셔니

The war in Afghanistan was the longest military mission in US history. The US has spent more than $2 trillion over 20 years.

Even so, it wasn’t enough to turn Afghanistan into a peaceful, democratic state. Taliban regained control of the country and it is as dangerous as it was before the war, or perhaps even worse.

It wasn’t just Afghanistan that became less stable due to the war. On Feb 13th in Munich, an Afghan national attempted killer drove his car into a crowd. He injured 39 people.

The war triggered a refugee exodus and there are now millions of Afghans who are lost, frustrated, and often angry. The refugee crisis is one of the key topics that are dividing our society - shaking the foundation of developed countries.

The US’s operations were flawless at the start of the invasion. The US is probably the only country that can project its military power on the opposite of the world, especially with no access from the ocean. But the US failed to rebuild Afghanistan and ultimately failed to achieve political objectives.
