<The Handmaid's Tale>

Text
You take the first step, and to save yourself from the consequences, you take the next one. In times like ours, there are only two directions: up or plummet.

You don't believe the sky is falling until a chunk of it falls on you.

"What do they even look like?"
"They look like anybody."

It's better that way, and I am a great proponent of better. In the absence of best.
Which is how we live now.

"No one wants to die. But some people don't want to live in any of the ways that are allowed."

Still, I wanted to believe, indeed I longed to; and, in the end, how much of belief comes from longing?

You yourself would never have done such things! But you yourself will never have had to.

Interview

"I hope the scarcity of children will go on until motherhood is honoured at least as much as the trials and hardships of soldiers campaigning in wartime. It will then be worthwhile to supply the nation with a sufficiency of children."

I already knew what I was writing about and this was backup. In case someone said, "How did you make this up?" As I've said about a million times, I didn't make it up. This is the proof - everything in these boxes.
