The meaning of the name : A high place for viewing stars

7세기 신라 선덕여왕 때 만들어진 세계에서 가장 오래된 천문대이다.

It is the oldest observatory in the world.

It was built during the Kingdom of Silla in the 7th century.

사용된 벽돌의 수는 362개로 당시 기준, 일 년의 날 수를 뜻한다.

A total of 362 bricks were used.

362 represents the number of days in a year.

가운데 구멍은 입구로 정남쪽을 향하고 있다.
