To the lake with Szymon. Bland scenery crowded with people who seem as bland so I write instead about my companion.

First thing that comes to mind is flowers. I’m probably sexist for thinking it’s unorthodox that men should receive flowers but there it was anyway sprung from behind Szymon’s back at my doorstep. I just kept laughing because of the whole situation’s utter randomness as he shouted “they are roses!” and then “I love when you laugh.”

Another episode - and my another first also - is the scooter ride that night when we didn’t have cash for our tempura and whatnot, so off to the nearest bank and immediately he spots the scooter. I couldn’t figure out how to put my foot securely on the base behind him let alone both feet since the small ride wasn’t built for two - “Do you trust me?” he asked and I said “No.” He didn’t care much for traffic regulations as I had guessed and I remember keep thinking to myself that we would soon be paying not only at the izakaya but also at the public order authority.

Once at night he texted whether I wanted something like a choco bar because he was doing groceries and my place is on his way. About an hour later my doorbell rang and it turns out he took Uber to Alexanderplatz only to get me a chocolate doughnut from Dunkin’ with a handful of M&M’s stuck on it (which seemingly had been a sweeter choice). My response was: “We HAVE to go to Sammy’s.” I think that night was also when I called him a dog - as in a terribly innocent and thus untamable Golden Retriever, which made him furious of course.

After I told him I was going to Zürich for the weekend he sent me an official form from Marriott, giving me a ‘spouse’ discount. The story of his manager raising eyebrows and asking him whether he is not too young to be married cracks me up every time, not to mention his vulgar racist jokes like “open your eyes!” whenever I laugh, to which then I retort with my even vulgarer ones.
