John 8:31-41
Dispute Over Whose Children Jesus’ Opponents Are
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” 34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. 38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father." 39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered. “If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”
This morning, I read a little long story by a brunch writer, whose writing was about recognizing herself as a sinful human being, like the main character of 'resurrection(부활)' who knew that the power of life is love and forgiveness. It was so touching that I wrote a message to her, "Heart on(her nickname), Congrats on your welcoming Jesus as your Savior and the Holy Spirit Jesus sent would help you accompanied by God and love others, with heart on, as well as loving yourself:) Hallelujah!
As she said, accepting ourselves as sinful men is not easy and the word itself is disgusting and hateful, but it is the truth. Though there are philosophers or theorists saying that we are born of good men and babies are pure and faultless, I don't agree with that. You will easily get judgement if you care for babies for a short time. Moreover, we are getting wicker and more selfish than them, getting older and older and there is no exception. Because we are born of the sinful nature that is from the first man, Adam, whom God made good and blessed.
Before we acknowledge that we are sinful men and Jesus' dying on the cross is the only solution to set us free, we are still in sins, and we are living as illegal children of sins. However, if we believe that Jesus got us free from our naturally, intentionally, or unintentionally commitd sins at once for all, we completely get free. What an amazing thing on earth! Let us make a room for the Word of God and be heirs of Heaven. It is more important than the room for our sleep.
