Life in Jesus
John 17:17-26
17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
Jesus Prays for All Believers
20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
Jesus' prayer that started from Himself goes to disciples, and even to those who would believe Him through the message of His disciples. The message is this: the world knows that God has sent Jesus as God has loved the world. Also, His prayer is for them to be complete unity in His love. Being unity seems very hard as we humans have our own-self and ego within ourselves. We live according to our thoughts and emotions, which are mostly considered as our good judgment, and that's ourselves as well.
However, Jesus says that when we are in Him, we bear fruits living in Him, as He told about the parable of vine and branches in Jonh 15. Being in Him means that we replace our egos with Him, and live according to His Word, not living on my own thought and feeling and judgments as well. These lives are totally different from each other. Living as myself vs. living as a child of God.
People seem to think that the latter is the life of servants of God, who is called mighty and powerful, and willingly to make the believers obey Him, like an authoritarian, but it's not true. Conversly, it's the opposite. I mean, as we live according to our instinct and thought only, then we are to live as a servant of the unknown evil ones, who are opposing against God, which are named sins.
I am sorry to say that this could sound nonsense, but the bible tells about it and I am truly living as the bible tells me about. I can't tell that I am living as the bible says 100% obedient, but I am trying to follow the inner voice of the Holy Spirit, instead of my thought and feeling, as they are not, most of time, so good, which means that my nature is not that good. Thus, I try to be in Him, so that I could bear more fruits in life for myself and others as well.
