Come and Have Breakfast!
John 21:1-14
Jesus and the Miraculous Catch of Fish
9 When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.
After Jesus' resurrection, the number of 5-7 disciples including Peter went to the sea of Galilee to catch fish, and overnight they caught nothing. They should have preached Jesus' resurrection and should have been witnesses of the son of God, but they were catching fish, without knowing what they should do at that time.
Once in a while, they were overjoyed when they saw Jesus' resurrection, but now they returned to their original fishermen, which were their jobs or others weren't. However, following Peter, who must be a good fisherman, they were catching fish. Then, Jesus came to the shore of the sea, and helped them catch fish. He was cooking fish with bread, taking the piece of fish and bread one by one.
Jesus was making breakfast for the seemingly weak and foolish disciples. I feel the love of Jesus to them, who had been following Him for 3 years, but they are still immature and not brave or dedicated enough to do the will of God. It is like my children and sisters for whom I have been praying long, and it also could be Myself.
This scene reminds me of some sisters and my relatives and children who would never change in many ways, though I have been trying to do good, with love and prayer. I was deep in trouble to see that, and it saddened me and made me disappointed, but now I feel like Jesus' heart and think of His life of being crucified for them, as well as feeding them at dawn. He is teaching me how to love them, being a role model to me. Feed them and pray for them.
