23. 예수께서 성전에 들어가 가르치실쌔 대제사장들과 백성의 장로들이 나아와 가로되 네가 무슨 권세로 이런 일을 하느뇨 또 누가 이 권세를 주었느뇨
23. Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?”
31. 그 둘 중에 누가 아비의 뜻대로 하였느뇨 가로되 둘째 아들이니이다 예수께서 저희에게 이르시되 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 세리들과 창기들이 너희보다 먼저 하나님의 나라에 들어가리라
31. “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.
32. 요한이 의의 도로 너희에게 왔거늘 너희는 저를 믿지 아니하였으되 세리와 창기는 믿었으며 너희는 이것을 보고도 종시 뉘우쳐 믿지 아니하였도다
32. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
Authority, the word, means the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience, according to a dictionary. Therefore, anyone is able to have it depending on a position given by people or born with it like Jesus. Jesus is the king of kings, so He must have had the absolute authority as the son of God.
These days, it seems that there are too many fake authorities that are being used wrongly in communities, societies, countries, and even in churches. It is like a two- edged sword. I mean it is necessary, but in case it is wrongly used, it affects our lives in a very negative way. Sadly, I have seen many so-called leaders, presidents, or experts, who are not using authorities well. I would not comment on all the names, as it is meaningless, and he or she could be myself.
I hope to learn a lesson from the son who repented and changed his mind, and speaking of faith, I am the first son, because I have experienced it. However, I am not sure that I am using the given authority well as a mom, a leader of a bible class, and a Christian and that I am obedient of His and if i am a good girl and a careful listener.
I expect that this kind of daily meditation on the bible leads me to the point of it because the Word itself has absolute authority beyond understanding and beyond the world powerful men.
