3. 여호와께서 이스라엘의 목소리를 들으시고 가나안 사람을 그들의 손에 넘기시매 그들과 그들의 성읍을 다 멸하니라 그러므로 그 곳 이름을 호르마라 하였더라
3. The LORD listened to Israel’s plea and gave the Canaanites over to them. They completely destroyed them and their towns; so the place was named Hormah.
Hormah means 'destruction', and this must be the first battle and victory as well to the Isralites. However, they started complaining again, even after having been experiencing many kinds of God's presence and His responses. As a result, they experienced one more disaster, which symbolizes Jesus' cross and His salvation.
Without faith, no one could please God, and accordingly no one could stand before Him. Seeing the cross itself leads us to the place of salvation and forgiveness. Nothing is necessary for us to do, so it becomes real and true Gospel to everyone.
I think that God is so generous and patient that He makes our weakness and foolishness and even wickedness to do good, I mean, He makes use of it for His kingdom and His people. Without His generosity and patience, we all couldn't have lived until now on earth, and there must be no salvation through Jesus and no forgiveness through His sacrifice as well.
