The Secret of Blessings
복 받는 비결
신명기(Deu) 5장
28. 여호와께서 너희가 내게 말할 때에 너희가 말하는 소리를 들으신지라 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 이 백성이 네게 말하는 그 말소리를 내가 들은즉 그 말이 다 옳도다
28. The LORD heard you when you spoke to me, and the LORD said to me, “I have heard what this people said to you. Everything they said was good.
29. 다만 그들이 항상 이같은 마음을 품어 나를 경외하며 내 모든 명령을 지켜서 그들과 그 자손이 영원히 복 받기를 원하노라
29. Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!
32. 그런즉 너희 하나님 여호와께서 너희에게 명령하신 대로 너희는 삼가 행하여 좌로나 우로나 치우치지 말고
32. So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left.
33. 너희 하나님 여호와께서 너희에게 명령하신 모든 도를 행하라 그리하면 너희가 살 것이요 복이 너희에게 있을 것이며 너희가 차지한 땅에서 너희의 날이 길리라
33. Walk in obedience to all that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
Moses was proclaiming the 10 commandments that God wrote on two stone tablets and that he had received at Horeb Mt. from the fire, clouds, and in deep darkness.
The heart of the Israelites must have been inclined to fear Him and keep His commands always as Moses has taught them to do, because it was the sure promises of God who has led them to there and it guaranteed long lives, prosperity and safe dwelling in the land of milk and honey. However, it has a condition: Walk in the way of His commands, not turning aside to the right or left.
Differently from what they had wished before, they quickly changed their heart and broke the first commandment by making an idol, when Moses didn't come back soon.
Every new year, we wish each other good luck and speak aloud, "복 많이 받으세요 in Korean, which could be translated into 'God bless you' in English. In fact, God has already taught us how to get blessings so many times through the bible. That is fearing and honoring Him, keeping His commands carefully and sincerely, and loving both Him and neighbors as well.
Most people seem not to know the way to get blessed from God, so they try to make use of many other skills and knowledge, and many other kinds of trials or tricks, etc. in order to get '복', even not knowing the source or giver of the blessing. At least, I am the one who knows how to get blessed and who enjoy blessings on a daily basis.
Yet, it is not that easy to get it just from praying in His name or in the other name of gods or idols, rather it is a tough, narrow, and tricky way to take, as Jesus told about the gate of Heaven, which is super narrow and very tough, so all of us who only wish but do not take actions can't go through at all.
