Moses' Great Sermon
모세의 위대한 설교
신명기(Deu) 4장
2. 내가 너희에게 명령하는 말을 너희는 가감하지 말고 내가 너희에게 내리는 너희 하나님 여호와의 명령을 지키라
2. Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you.
4. 오직 너희의 하나님 여호와께 붙어 떠나지 않은 너희는 오늘까지 다 생존하였느니라
4. but all of you who held fast to the LORD your God are still alive today.
9. 오직 너는 스스로 삼가며 네 마음을 힘써 지키라 그리하여 네가 눈으로 본 그 일을 잊어버리지 말라 네가 생존하는 날 동안에 그 일들이 네 마음에서 떠나지 않도록 조심하라 너는 그 일들을 네 아들들과 네 손자들에게 알게 하라
9. Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.
22. 나는 이 땅에서 죽고 요단을 건너지 못하려니와 너희는 건너가서 그 아름다운 땅을 얻으리니
22. I will die in this land; I will not cross the Jordan; but you are about to cross over and take possession of that good land.
23. 너희는 스스로 삼가 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 너희와 세우신 언약을 잊지 말고 네 하나님 여호와께서 금하신 어떤 형상의 우상도 조각하지 말라
23. Be careful not to forget the covenant of the LORD your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the LORD your God has forbidden.
24. 네 하나님 여호와는 소멸하는 불이시요 질투하시는 하나님이시니라
24. For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
29. 그러나 네가 거기서 네 하나님 여호와를 찾게 되리니 만일 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 그를 찾으면 만나리라
29. But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
<Moses' Great Sermon>
Moses who was not allowed to Jordan must have disappointed and felt in despair, but he was making one of the wonderful sermons to the young Israelites who are about to go into the land, Canaan.
The first sermon he emphasized on was that they shouldn't add or subtract to the commandments that the Lord had given them through voices. They had also watched His guidance and Presence with their own eyes through many miraculous signs and acts on their long journey. There was no other God who listened to and answered their prayers as father cares for his kids.
Secondly, he speaks to them that they shouldn't forget it or let it go from their heart as long as they live, and that they should teach their children and children after them what He had done to them.
Thirdly, they shouldn't make any idols with anything under heaven, and even bowing down to them was forbidden. For the LORD, God, is a consuming fire and a jealous God.
Lastly, Moses tells that He is the one who cares for His own children generously, even making cities of refuge, in case when they kill anyone unintentionally.
I have heard so many sermons for 4 decades until now, but this sermon is so simple, clear, and powerful that i think i should keep that all in mind as unforgettable messages of God.
