The Meaning of Manna
신명기(Deu) 8장
2. Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
3. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.
16. He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.
17. You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”
18. But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
Men have been struggling to eat bread and it is very important, so even the Lord's prayer that Jesus had taught us to pray contains this verse, saying 'Give us today daily bread'.
However, we shouldn't live alone for bread and only satisfied at it, because not only our body, but our soul also needs the Word of God, which makes it alive and satisfied. We humans are differently and specially created by God, compared to any other animals and plants that are made for humans, according to Genesis.
Even though we live well eating enough food as a daily basis, we can't tell that it is my power and strength of my hands that I have got wealth, because it is He, the Lord, who gives the ability to produce wealth, and even a loaf of bread is all from the nature made by God as the verse 17 says.
To teach this lesson through Israelites, in the 430 years' lives of slavery in Egypt and the 40 years' lives in the wilderness, God seems to have made use of them. I mean, they should have lived as slaves of a king without the helping Hand and they wouldn't have been able to live a day without His supporting Manna from the heaven.
Likewise, the only testimony that I can make is that everything that I have and enjoy is all from God. Therefore, i must remember, as He said, that God is my spiritual Savior and my financial supporter in my life. So what i should do is just humbling myself and being careful to follow His commands, so that I may enter and possess the land that the Lord promised on oath.
