Haiti’s chief prosecutor asked a judge to charge Ariel Henry, the prime minister, in connection with the assassination of the president, Jovenel Moïse, in July. Shortly after the murder Mr Henry is alleged to have spoken twice by phone with a key suspect, who is now on the run. Mr Henry has been barred from leaving the country.

France’s foreign minister criticised a potential deal between Mali and the Wagner Group, a Russian military contractor, that would send mercenaries to the west African country. The hired guns would train Malian soldiers and guard senior officials, according to Reuters, a news agency. French officials are reportedly considering withdrawing their troops, who are fighting an Islamist insurgency in the Sahel, if the deal goes ahead.

“Core” consumer prices in America (which exclude food and energy) rose by just 0.1% in August from July, the smallest monthly increase since February. The softer-than-expected increase will vindicate the Federal Reserve, which has argued that inflation is transitory.

Together for Catalonia, which serves in coalition with Mr Aragonès’s separatist party, was founded by Carles Puigdemont, the former Catalan leader who organised an illegal independence referendum in 2017. Expectations from the talks are low; Spain’s government remains opposed to Catalan independence.
