Musk Says He’s Forming ‘America Party’ (WSJ. 20250707)
Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, says he's creating a new political party called the America Party, reigniting a feud between him and President Trump. However, neither Musk nor his advisors have filed paperwork to the Federal Election Commission. In response to the new announcement, a number of Trump's allies are questioning whether starting a new party is compatible with Musk's full-time obligations to Tesla. Shares of Tesla were down in early trading. When asked about the third party on Sunday, Trump signaled that it would only cause confusion and said Musk, quote, "can have fun with it, but I think it's ridiculous." We're exclusively reporting that Oracle is offering the federal government a 75% discount on the cost of its database software and cloud computing service through the end of November. It would be the latest in a series of deals struck between the General Services Administration, which oversees procurement for the federal government, and the likes of Google, Adobe, and Slack parent company Salesforce. Oracle declined to specify the size of the discount, but the GSA put it at 75%. The agency said it's in negotiations with other cloud providers to potentially make similar deals as part of the administration's continued focus on extracting savings from federal contractors. And LG Electronics expects its quarterly operating profit to fall by nearly half from a year ago. The South Korean consumer electronics giant said higher U.S. tariffs and intensified market competition weighed on performance last year. LG said its home appliance and business-to-business segments remained profitable, but its media and entertainment division suffered due to sluggish demand, higher liquid crystal display panel prices, and increased marketing expenses.
