Trump Calls for Release of ‘Pertinent’ Epstein Grand Jury Material (WSJ. 20250718)
President Trump has called for the release of grand jury material related to the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein. This move came after an article in The Wall Street Journal about a letter bearing Trump's name that was included in a 2003 birthday album for the disgraced financier. Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on X that she was ready to ask a court today to unseal the grand jury transcripts. In a social media post last night, Trump threatened to sue The Wall Street Journal for publishing the article, calling it false, malicious, and defamatory. The president also said he planned to sue News Corp, the parent company of Dow Jones, which publishes the Journal, as well as Rupert Murdoch, the chair emeritus of News Corp. A News Corp spokesman didn't respond to a request for comment. An arbitration panel gave Chevron the okay to complete its purchase of Hess for $53 billion, ignoring ExxonMobil's claim that it had a contractual right to bid for Hess's assets in Guyana. Following the ruling of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, Chevron announced that it plans to nominate John Hess, Hess's longtime chief executive, to its board. Exxon said that it disagreed with the ICC panel's interpretation but respects the arbitration process. And the European Union agreed to impose its toughest sanctions on Russia since its invasion of Ukraine. The sanctions package would block attempts to revive the Nord Stream gas pipelines, lowering a price cap for Russian oil sales, and potentially worsening tensions with China.
