General Motors beat analyst expectations when it reported its second quarter earnings today, but new tariffs on imported cars and auto parts took a 1.1 billion bite out of its bottom line. GM says greater impacts are expected to hit the carmaker in the third quarter, though the company maintained its profit guidance for the full year. GM has largely held prices steady, despite tariffs, choosing to absorb the costs, while shifting some production to the US and holding out for trade deals with Mexico, Canada, and South Korea that would provide relief. The Justice Department is seeking to interview Jeffrey Epstein's longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who's serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking. That's according to a senior official. A lawyer for Maxwell confirmed she's in discussions to testify. The request to interview her comes as the Justice Department continues to face criticism for its refusal to release more documents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's probe of Epstein. Coca-Cola is giving President Trump what he wants; coke sweetened with cane sugar. During its quarterly earnings call today, the soda giant's CEO announced plans to add a line of cane sugar-sweetened Coke, after Trump last week said Coca-Cola had agreed to use real cane sugar in the soda. However, he added that the company will continue to use corn syrup to sweeten its drinks. And the European Commission has opened an in-depth investigation into Universal Music Group's $775 million takeover of US label Downtown, citing competition concerns. The commission set a November 26th deadline to end the in-depth investigation.
