U.S. Stocks Rally After Tough Week (WSJ. 20250804)

U.S. stocks rallied today, recovering from a tough run last week. The S&P 500 climbed 1.5% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average added around 1.3%, while the Nasdaq Composite gained almost 2%. The advance came as investors increased bets on a Federal Reserve interest rate cut in September. Elsewhere, benchmark Treasury yields edged lower and oil futures fell. Among individual companies. American Eagle Outfitters jumped 24% after President Trump praised the retailer's recent ad campaign. Spotify gained 5% after the audio streaming service raised its subscription prices in several parts of the world. Shares of Boeing were roughly flat after its defense workers went on strike, and Comscope stocks surged 86% on a deal to sell its broadband connectivity unit. After the Bell, Palantir Technologies reported over a billion dollars in revenue for its latest quarter and boosted its full-year outlook. Shares were up 4.4% in off-hours trading.
