Trump, Putin Enter Alaska Talks With Conflicting Aims (20250815)
President Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, will arrive in Alaska today with two very different goals in mind for how to end the war in Ukraine. After initially playing down the summit as a way to feel out Putin's position, Trump in recent days has said he would urge Putin to accept a ceasefire, seeking to jumpstart long-stalled negotiations, for Putin, the aim when the leaders meet at an airbase outside of Anchorage, will be to stay in Trump's good graces while still trying to reassert Moscow's dominance over Kiev. While President Zelensky is not attending the summit, Trump says, if Putin agrees, he will bring him into the talks, potentially flying him to Alaska. Intel and the Trump administration are discussing the possibility of the U.S. Government taking a financial stake in the chip maker. That's according to people familiar with the matter. Last week, Trump called for CEO Lip-Bu Tan to step down, describing him as being highly conflicted. That was a reference to Tan's web of investments in Chinese technology companies. Warren Buffett's, Berkshire Hathaway sold shares in Apple during the second quarter, further reducing its stake. That's according to a regulatory filing by Berkshire yesterday. At the same time, the Omaha Nebraska Company added insurer UnitedHealth Group to its portfolio.
