The personal-consumption expenditures price index, the Fed's preferred inflation measure rose by 2.6% over the 12 months through July, steady from a month earlier, that's according to the Commerce Department. The closely watched core PCE price index, which excludes volatile food and energy categories, was up by 2.9% year over year in July, up from 2.8% in June. The latest data is no closer to the Fed's 2% inflation target, emphasizing the policy challenge the central bank faces as it prepares for a possible interest rate cut in September. President Trump has revoked Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, that's according to a senior White House official and confirmed by an adviser to Harris. Harris was entitled to six months of Secret Service protection after leaving office, which former President Joe Biden extended by a year. The revocation comes as Harris is expected to soon kick off a book tour for her memoir, which will be published in late September.
