U.S. Stocks Tick Lower Following Friday’s Rally (WSJ. 20250825)

U.S. stock indexes ticked lower today, pulling back from Friday's rally spurred by hopes for an interest rate cut. The Dow Jones Industrial Average led major indexes downward, falling 0.8%, while the S&P 500 declined 0.4%, and the Nasdaq was down 0.2%. The moves came after the White House indicated it was open to the U.S. government taking equity stakes in more companies as it has in Intel. Meanwhile, Intel shares declined 1%, reversing a climb from Friday after the terms of the government's equity investment were revealed. Separately, bond yields edged higher and the dollar regained some ground against major currencies. Among individual companies, shares of Keurig Dr Pepper fell more than 11% after the company agreed to buy the parent company of Peet's Coffee for $18 billion. While JDE Peet's stock surged more than 17%. Shares of furniture importers, including Wayfair and RH, dropped more than 5% after President Trump warned of imposing tariffs on the industry. Rocket Labs stock rose 6.4% after the company announced expanded semiconductor investments and a successful mission launch. And shares of cannabis company, Tilray Brands jumped 22% after an investment bank raised its price target for the stock.
