China prohibited the broadcast of the BBC World News channel in the country. Chinese state media attributed the ban to the British broadcaster’s recent reports on human-rights abuses in Xinjiang and its coverage of the protests in Hong Kong and the pandemic. The decision came one week after Ofcom, Britain’s broadcast regulator, revoked the licence of China Global Television Network, a state media channel.

The Malaysian government plans to deport 1,200 Myanmar nationals held in detention centres across the country, according to Reuters. The generals who directed a coup in Myanmar on February 1st offered to send three navy ships to repatriate the citizens. Malaysia has over 154,000 Myanmar asylum-seekers, but does not recognise them as such. It regards them instead as illegal immigrants.
