Popular anger has been stoked by videos of government critics being arrested, sometimes under cover of darkness.

The designation was made at the 11th hour by the Trump administration. President Biden has promised to end America’s support for the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis, who are backed by Iran. Meanwhile, the United Nations said that nearly 2.3m children under the age of five will suffer from acute malnutrition in Yemen this year.

Annual consumer-price inflation in India fell to 4.1% in January, down from 4.6% the previous month. Separately, the country’s index of industrial production, a measure of factory output, grew by 1% month-on-month in December. Nevertheless, industrial production is still 13.5% lower than when India’s first national lockdown was imposed in March.
