The first sea class with Haenyeo
To make school more beautiful : Mural painting!
I went to school by 10 o'clock last week, but today I go to school by 9:30. Because today is the day to paint a mural! Whatever I did, I did more than average. Music and art are an area that I'm not very very good at. Especially, I'm bad at art, design and fashion. When I'm dressed I am all in black, if I buy my favorite color without considering harmony, the whole house is blue. Though I take an aptitude test, the design field has the lowest score. Even now I volunteered for painting murals. As an undergraduate there were mural club and several mural painting events, but I've never been an part of it. Because of my low capability and busy life, though I wanted to try it, I've never done it. I'm glad to try it at Haenyeo shool.
A person who majored in art was mural team leader. She came to draw a draft, and she was making a rough sketch at 9:30. Though person having no sense of beauty like me, only brushing with paint looking out the Jeju sea is healing coloring! Even she chose the color for each, and combined paint color, so I need not worry about difficulty to paint what color. If I were, I might paint all in blue series.
To overlay and color original large Haenyeo picture and to color newly drawn picture are our tasks. If we held up the brush painted, browing wind made paint scattered and pattered.
"No!!!"
"Hey, leader, I made an accident, and the drawing was like that. Would you design to cover it?"
"It's OK. That's fine! Naturally mural is like this. It doesn't matter."
She is the team leader to work cool.
It was sooooo interesting! Maybe this time was drawing the last mural of my life. Not knowing how three hours went by. I painted excitedly. If I looked back after finishing my painting, the drawings completed one by one were in harmony, so they were very beautiful. The pictures seem to be floating in the brightness of the sun of Jeju. If team leader modified pictures on the spot and painted directly by hand, we all expressed admiration say thing 'The expert is different.' We consider together the composition of the photography, thinking how we can take a good picture of finished mural.
A student who didn't apply to paint a mural came.
"I came to keep lunch to people volunteered to pain murals."
She just came to bring lunch for us not to prepare, not asking for it to anyone. Toe colleague of Haenyeo school with a big heart was good. As she had to prepare a meal for 15 people, she was refused all at the close kimbap(김밥) restaurant and lunch box restaurant. Finally she went to Oedo(외도) and she brought lunch boxes by hand. Thanks to her filling our empty stomach full, we could enter regular afternoon classes!
Equipment set-up : Free diving equipments
I wore the double K suit that I bought newly. When I went to get a AIDA2 license, free diving instructor serving as double K ambassador recommended it. Due to time constraints I bought suit already made not customization, using Yamamoto textile material. I selected No. 45 better material between No. 39 and No. 45. Size 44 fits me well. Free-diving center conducting a certification course lent diving suit used this Yamamoto material, I didn't feel cold at all despite mid-May. When we went into the sea wearing Haenyeo school uniform, I was very cold. From today wearing a new very good suit, I will not be cold at all!
Again I put on newly bought long fins. As the entrance to the ankle is small, I exchanged once. I need a shoehorn when I wear it. This plastic long fins is harder than rubber long fins, I need more thigh strength. But I selected plastic fins, liking the weight of a moving legs and fins in the sea.
Snorkle and mask are made by gull, and they are for skin scuba diving. I will go scuba diving, so I bought them for scuba diving. Besides putting on two kilos of lead, rubber lead belt, diving sock and gloves. I'm done dressing up!
First sea class with wonderful Haenyeo teachers!
Today as well we swim two round trips, 70 meters away as a warm-up. I practice Haenyeo breaststroke I learned last week. In a while wonderful Haenyeo-s who will teach the today's class came! Dividing into 6 groups, they will teach in groups. One of them will teach separately people who are not doing well, so a total 7 Haenyeo-s came.
COVID spreads again in Jeju-do. Even in Han-Rim-Eup(한림읍) where Hansupul Haenyeo school is located, it has reached. Especially, three students in Han-Rim elementary school are confirmed, the students of Haenyeo school who have children in the school, are being connected to the children's academy, almost 10~15 students couldn't attend today's class.
I belong to group 5 and today three students in group 5 were absent, and we were 5 in total. One of them, saying that she had to go to inferior group, went that group for herself. So we took a one-on-four lesson with a Haenyeo. Our teacher became a Haenyeo and she is 89 years old now. She was born, grown-up, and lives in Kui-Duk-2-Ri(귀덕2리). Her face is wrinkled and wrinkled, but she wears 15kg of lead at her waist. When free-diving instructor said that it was hard to wear only 2kg of lead. In spite of getting that lead on her waist at that age, she's all right. The more I saw her, the more touching she was. Tears are rising.
One of our four students couldn't dive continuously. She said she dived in the pool, but she couldn't in the sea. So Haenyeo teacher kept demonstrating as if saying to look at her, and to look at her. Looking at the student who couldn't dive, she laughed recklessly. she was so cute and lovely. She spoke in a very strong Jeju dialect, I was sad to misunderstand. For about 40 minutes we dived with Haenyeo-s and then going deeper, we practiced freely among ourselves.
