JejuHaenyeo School with Haenyeo
Starting from OT on May 1st, it’s already 9 weeks since I went to Haenyeo school every week. The 9th meeting of Haenyeo school students is still pleasant and refreshing.
1,000m fast duck kick
Today a diving exercise was scheduled going into the depths in the sea, suddenly the principal appeared and said that he would present a gift certificatae to the first, second, third teams in the relay race. And the diving exercise changed to a kicking relay. I remember it was so hard when I did it last week. At this time one person swims 1,000m round trip, and it tis the 4,000m duck-kick relay. I’m going to die of dyspnea! I’m dying of shortness of breath after I go and come back 1 km as the first runner. The first runner was a test… It was too far and too hard, and the swimming road was changed eventually reducing the distance. Whoa! That was a really hard kick. As expected, Tewak is too uncomfortable to swim quickly like last week.

Picking up golf balls for diving practice
Golf balls suiting our number of us were sprinkled around the Haenyeo statue and Jeong-nang(정낭). The rule was that the person who picks up the ball well must not give it to the person who pick it up wrong. And each person must pick up one. They say that there are numbers on the golf ball, and that we are going to have a prize lottery. As a lot of seaweed is thick and is floating around, the balls are not visible from the surface. If we dive in, we would see them just like when we look for sea urchins. The number of mins is 38.
And it's easy to pick up the golf ball to Haenyeo school student.
About half the students picked up the ball, and half the students didn’t. The daughter of a student of Haenyeo school goes to school with mom every week, and she is adored. This child gave us the prize number. A student won, but really there was no prize!!!
An octopus is hard to see
Today Haenyeo teacher in charge of our group won't working on the sea urchin. She says she can't go to work because of the pain of her waist. Sea urchin catching is a burden on the waist because she has to flip the rocks, and she didn't catch it. Now that I've tried it, I knew that rock-flipping is a more strenuous task than I thought. So I understand more and more. I guess that there are quite a few Haenyeo-s not to be able to catch sea urchins due to maybe chronic diseases most of them being old.
Getting tired of peeling sea urchins last week, everyone is languishing on the sea urchin catching at speed. Obviously it's fun to bring out sea urchins, but the work to peel them is too hard.
A student caught an octopus.
At the sight students of our group want to catch it. "Uncle(teacher)! Let's go to catch an octopus!", but the octopus was not visible. She said that there's a lot of sea lettuce down there, so we can't see the octopus. The wind is blowing, the waves are falling, and it is raining, and if the sea lettuce wash away, we could see the octopus well. As there is a lot of sea lettuce, in the meantime it's lucky to see the octopus. I asked "Is the sea lettuce you are talking about a side dish we eat?" That's not it. I think green seaweed in the sea is called sea lettuce.

Haenyeo see down the water without snorkel. And the she dive into and pick up the sea cucumber. Sea cucumber really looks like the rocks. How can she distingish it!
The number of confirmed Corona virus cases in zero in Jeju-do, and so many students is coming to school without worrying. It's already been 2 month since Haenyeo school started. It's almost July 2021.
