Alive in Praise
시편 115편 17–18절 : 죽은 자들은 여호와를 찬양하지 못하나니 아무도 잠잠한 데로 내려가는 자는 못하리로다. 오직 우리는 이제부터 영원까지 여호와를 송축하리로다. 할렐루야.
기독교의 핵심 키워드 중 하나는 ‘생명’입니다. 오늘 시편 기자는 죽은 자는 할 수 없고, 오직 살아 있는 자만이 할 수 있는 일, 곧 ‘찬양’에 대해 말합니다.
생명을 생각할 때, 우리는 육체에 속한 생명과 영에 속한 생명을 함께 떠올릴 수 있습니다. 육체가 죽으면 하나님을 찬양할 수 없는 것처럼 영혼이 하나님과의 관계 안에서 죽어 있다면 역시 찬양은 불가능합니다.
하나님께 시선을 고정하지 못하는 삶, 하나님 앞에서 더는 떨지 않는 마음, 그리고 하나님의 이름을 부르지 않는 삶은 결국 그분과의 관계로부터 멀어진 상태이며, 그 안에서 찬양은 점점 사라지게 됩니다. 찬양은 감정을 담는 그릇이기도 하지만 동시에 하나님과의 살아 있는 관계에서만 드릴 수 있는 사랑의 언어이기 때문입니다.
그렇기에 우리가 지금 찬양할 수 있다는 사실은 우리가 여전히 하나님 안에서 숨 쉬고 있으며, 그분 앞에 설 수 있는 자리에 있음을 말해 줍니다. 우리의 찬양 안에는 우리가 바라는 하늘의 징표가 담겨 있다고 말할 수 있을 것입니다.
사실 하나님의 존재는 우리의 찬양에 의해 결정되지 않습니다. 그러나 우리의 존재는 찬양을 통해 그 방향과 생기를 회복합니다. 찬양이 사라진 삶은 어느새 하나님으로부터 멀어졌다는 증거일 수 있고
찬양이 되살아나는 순간 하나님과의 관계가 다시 열리기 시작합니다.
그러므로 오늘 우리가 해야 할 일은 분명합니다. 이 순간을 영원의 시작으로 삼아 주께서 베푸신 은혜를 기억하며 그분을 높이는 것. 그리고 그 첫 걸음은 찬양하는 것입니다. 우리가 드리는 이 찬양이 하나님을 향한 삶의 방향을 다시 세우고 회복의 길을 여는 은혜의 통로가 되기를 소망합니다.
할렐루야. 하나님을 찬양합니다.
할렐루야. 우리는 여전히 하나님 안에 살아 있는 자입니다.
Psalm 115:17–18 : The dead do not praise the Lord, nor do any who go down into silence. But we will bless the Lord from this time forth and forevermore. Praise the Lord!
One of the core words of the Christian faith is life. In today’s psalm we are reminded of something only the living can do, praise.
When we think of life, we often picture both the life of the body and the life of the spirit. Just as the body cannot praise once it has died, so too a soul that is cut off from God cannot truly lift praise to Him.
A life that no longer fixes its gaze on God, a heart that no longer trembles before Him, a voice that no longer calls His name, these are signs of a soul drifting away from its Source. In that place, praise fades, for praise is not merely an expression of emotion; it is the language of love that flows only from a living relationship with God.
That is why the very fact that we can praise today is proof that we are still breathing in Him and still standing in His presence. Our praise carries within it a sign of heaven, a glimpse of the eternal life we long for.
God’s existence does not depend on our praise. But our existence finds direction and renewal through praise. A life without praise is often a life that has quietly wandered from Him, and the moment praise returns, so does the doorway into restored fellowship with God.
So our calling for today is clear. We are to take this moment as the beginning of eternity, remembering His grace and lifting Him high. And the first step is simple: to praise. May our praise today be the pathway that restores our life’s direction and opens again the road of renewal.
