The Depth of God's Wisdom
로마서 11장 33절 : 깊도다 하나님의 지혜와 지식의 부요함이여 그의 판단은 측량하지 못할 것이며 그의 길은 찾지 못할 것이로다.
바울은 이방인과 이스라엘을 향한 하나님의 구원 계획을 치열하게 논증해 나갑니다. 그러나 논리의 정점에서 그는 갑자기 멈추어 서서 "깊도다"라며 경탄의 숨을 내뱉습니다.
신앙의 여정 속에서도 우리는 이해하고 싶어 치열해지는 순간들을 맞이합니다. 하지만 그 길의 끝에서 만나는 것은 언제나 이성으로 다 헤아릴 수 없는 신비입니다. 그때 우리는 하나님의 지혜란 더 많은 지식을 소유하는 능력이 아니라 인간의 불순종과 실패마저 구원의 도구로 삼으시는 부요한 지혜라는 것을 깨닫게 되는 것 같습니다.
하나님의 판단을 이해하지 못해 혼란스럽고 하나님의 길을 찾지 못해 막막해지는 순간들이 있습니다. 그러나 바울의 고백처럼 그 깊이를 다 헤아리지 못한다는 사실 자체가 오히려 하나님이 하나님 되심을 증언하는 것 같습니다.
신앙은 모든 답을 알아서 얻는 확신이 아니라 이해할 수 없는 깊이 앞에 멈추어 서서 "깊도다"라고 고백하는 자리에서 자라납니다. 그 자리에서 우리의 이성은 잠잠해지고 우리의 몸과 영혼은 마침내 하나님께 드리는 예배가 되리라 믿습니다.
Romans 11:33 : Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
Paul passionately reasons through God's plan of salvation for both Gentiles and Israel. Yet at the height of his reasoning, he suddenly stops and exhales a breath of awe, "Oh, the depth."
In our own journey of faith, we too face moments when we wrestle to understand. But at the end of that pursuit, what we meet is always mystery, something that cannot be fully measured by reason. And in that moment, we begin to realize that God's wisdom is not the ability to possess more knowledge, but the richness that turns even human disobedience and failure into instruments of salvation.
There are times when we are confused because we cannot grasp God's judgments, and times when we feel lost because we cannot find His ways. Yet, as Paul confesses, the very fact that we cannot fathom His depth becomes the testimony that He truly is God.
Faith, then, does not grow from knowing every answer, but from standing still before the unsearchable depth and whispering, "How deep." In that stillness, reason grows silent, and our whole being, body and soul, becomes worship before God.
