Amen, A New Beginning
유다서 1장 25절 : 우리 구주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 영광과 위엄과 권력과 권세가 만고 전부터 이제와 세세에 있을지어다. 아멘.
우리는 기도를 아멘으로 마칩니다. 우리는 기도하면서 아멘을 기도의 마지막, 곧 끝맺음이라 생각하지만 사실 아멘은 시작을 의미한다고 보는 편이 더 맞을 것 같다는 생각이 종종 듭니다. 입술의 기도가 멈추는 순간 삶의 기도가 비로소 시작되기 때문입니다.
유다서의 마지막도 아멘으로 끝이 납니다. 여기서 아멘은 고백의 결말이 아니라 하나님의 영광 속으로 들어가겠다는 유다의 결단으로 읽힙니다. 그 결단대로 남은 유다의 삶을 살아가겠다는 의지의 언어로 들립니다.
유다는 "만고 전부터, 이제와, 세세에"라는 표현으로 하나님의 주권이 시간의 시작과 끝을 초월함을 고백합니다. 그에게 믿음이란 지금 이 순간 속에서 그 영원한 질서를 따라 사는 일이었습니다. 그 깨달음이 유다의 고백이었고 그 고백의 마지막에 위치한 것이 아멘이었습니다.
그러니 유다의 아멘은 고백의 끝이 아니라 하나님의 영광 속으로 한 걸음 더 들어가겠다는 결단이 된다는 생각이 듭니다. 아멘은 하나의 말이 아니라 삶의 형태입니다. 아멘하는 순간 그 믿음을 일상 속에서 살아내겠다는 약속이 됩니다.
유다의 아멘이 끝이 아니라 그리스도와 함께 다시 시작되는 삶이었듯이 우리의 기도 끝에 드리는 아멘 또한 하나님과 함께 새로 시작되는 하루의 첫 고백이 되기를 바랍니다. 아멘.
Jude 1:25 : To the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power, and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now, and forevermore. Amen.
We end our prayers with Amen. Many think of it as the closing word, the end of prayer. But perhaps Amen is not an ending at all. Maybe it is a beginning. The moment our spoken prayer ends, a life of prayer begins.
The Book of Jude also ends with Amen. Yet here, it doesn’t sound like the conclusion of a confession but like a resolution, a decision to step into the glory of God and to live according to that conviction.
When Jude writes, "before all time, now, and forevermore," he acknowledges that God's sovereignty transcends time itself. For Jude, faith meant living in this very moment according to that eternal order. His realization became his confession, and at the end of that confession stood Amen.
So Jude's Amen was not the end of his words but the start of his obedience, the choice to walk one step deeper into the presence of God. Amen is more than a word; it is a way of life. Every time we say it, we make a quiet promise to live out the faith we just confessed.
Just as Jude's Amen led him into a renewed life with Christ, may our Amen at the end of prayer also become the first confession of a new day, one that begins again with God. Amen.
