The Eternal Today
히브리서 4장 7절 : 그래서 하나님은 다시 어느 날을 정하여 '오늘'이라고 부르시고, 오랜 뒤에 다윗의 글에서 이미 말한 대로 '오늘 너희가 그의 음성을 듣거든 너희의 마음을 완고하게 하지 말아라' 하고 말씀하셨습니다.
히브리서 4장 7절에 '오늘'은 영원이 시간 속으로 침투하는 순간, 즉 카이로스(kairos)를 말합니다. 하나님은 인간의 시간선 위에 특정한 한 지점을 정하시고 그곳에서 자신을 드러내십니다. 따라서 신앙의 시간은 과거의 사건이 아니라 현재의 만남이며 하나님의 음성은 어제의 기록이 아니라 지금 들리는 말씀입니다.
이 '오늘'이 구체적으로 드러난 자리가 바로 십자가입니다. 십자가는 단 한 번의 역사적 사건이지만 동시에 모든 시간을 초월하는 영원의 사건입니다. 그날 예수 그리스도께서 달리신 십자가는 하나의 시공간 속에서 일어난 일이지만 그 의미는 모든 오늘 속에서 다시 열립니다. 십자가 위에서 하나님은 자신의 영원을 인간의 시간 속으로 내려놓으셨고 그 순간부터 인간의 오늘의 의미는 변화하게 되었습니다.
십자가는 하나님의 카이로스가 역사 속에 고정된 자리입니다. 그 사건이 있었기에 우리는 매일의 오늘을 통해 다시 은혜의 자리에 설 수 있게 됩니다. 우리가 기도할 때, 용서할 때, 사랑을 선택할 때마다 십자가의 시간이 현재로 이어집니다. 카이로스의 십자가는 매일의 오늘 속에서 다시 현재화됩니다.
하나님은 어제의 하나님으로 머물지 않으십니다. 그분은 지금 이 순간에도 말씀하시고, 오늘도 십자가의 은혜로 우리를 부르십니다. 십자가의 카이로스 안에서 오늘은 영원의 일부가 됩니다. 그때 우리의 시간은 구속의 시간으로 변하고 우리의 오늘은 은혜의 장이 됩니다. 십자가는 시간을 넘어선 하나님의 약속이 오늘이라는 한 시점 속에서 드러나는 신비의 은혜입니다. 그 은혜는 한 번으로 끝나지 않고 오늘도, 내일도, 믿는 자의 시간 속에 계속해서 새롭게 열립니다. '오늘'을 주신 하나님께 감사드립니다.
Hebrews 4:7 : God again set a certain day, calling it "Today." This He did when a long time later He spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: "Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts."
In Hebrews 4:7, the word "today" points to the moment when eternity breaks into time, what the Greeks called kairos. God chooses a specific point along the human timeline to reveal Himself. Faith, therefore, is not about remembering something that once happened, it is about encountering God now. His voice is not a relic of the past but a living word spoken in this very moment.
This "today" is revealed most fully at the cross. The crucifixion was a single historical event, yet it transcends all history, a moment where eternity entered human time. On that cross, God placed His eternal love within the boundaries of time, forever changing what today means.
The cross is the fixed point where God's kairos intersects human history. Because of that event, every today becomes a place where grace can be found anew. Whenever we pray, forgive, or choose love, the time of the cross flows into the present moment. The kairos of the cross is reawakened within each new day.
God does not remain the God of yesterday. He still speaks now. Even today, through the grace of the cross, He calls us to Himself. Within the kairos of the cross, today becomes a fragment of eternity, time itself transformed into redemption, the ordinary moment made holy.
The cross is the mystery of God's eternal promise made visible in one moment called today. That grace did not end once in history; it continues, opening anew in every believer’s time, today, tomorrow, and forever. For this today, we give thanks.
