Gratitude Between the Times
요한계시록 11장 17절 : 감사하옵나이다 주 하나님 곧 전능하신 이시여, 지금도 계시고 전에도 계셨으며 장차 오실 이시니, 주께서 큰 권능을 잡으시고 왕 노릇 하시도다.
일곱째 나팔이 울릴 때 하늘의 24장로들의 보좌 앞에 엎드려 하나님께 감사의 기도를 드립니다. 심판이 끝나지 않았고 세상은 완전히 새로워지지 않았지만 하늘에서는 이미 하나님의 왕되심을 선포하고 감사의 기도를 드립니다. 장로들의 감사는 아직도 진행 중인 혼돈 속에서 하나님의 통치가 이미 시작되었음을 믿는 고백이었습니다.
성경에서 보는 감사는 원하는 결과가 이루어졌기 때문에 드리는 감정적 감사라기보다는 믿음의 선취로 드려지는 선포에 가깝다는 생각을 합니다. 내가 원하는 것을 받았기 때문에 드리는 감사는 쉽고 자연스럽지만 아무것도 보이지 않을 때 드리는 감사는 하나님께서 주시는 은혜 없이는 불가능합니다. 그 감사는 하나님께서 시간의 앞뒤를 초월하여 지금 이 순간에도 일하고 계시다는 것을 믿을 때 가능합니다.
신앙 생활을 하면 느끼는 시간은 과거, 현재, 미래로 흐르는 선형적 시간과는 많이 다르다는 생각을 종종합니다. 과거와 현재와 미래가 한순간 서로의 경계를 잃고 하나의 면에서 동시에 존재하는 순간 우리는 하나님의 시간에 가 닿는것 같습니다. 무수한 점으로 존재하는 인간의 시간을 한데 모으셔서 하나님께서 하나의 면을 만드시고 공간을 만드시어 의미를 채워주신다고 믿습니다. 아직 오지 않은 미래가 현재를 비추고 오래된 과거가 오늘의 빛으로 되살아나는 자리에서 감사의 고백이 흘러나온다고 믿습니다.
세상은 여전히 흔들리고 심판의 소리를 완전지 멎지 않았지만 믿음의 눈으로 하나님의 왕좌를 바라봅니다. 하나님의 통치는 한순간도 멈춘 적이 없습니다. 시간의 틈 속에서도 하나님의 질서는 여전히 이어지고 있습니다. 그래서 오늘도 감사의 마음으로 하나님 앞에 섭니다. 하나님께서 모든 시간을 당신의 손안에 모아 통치하신다는 사실이 오늘도 저를 단단히 붙듭니다. 하나님께 감사드립니다. 결국에는 모든 것이 감사뿐이라고 고백합니다.
Revelation 11:17 : We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign.
When the seventh trumpet sounds, the twenty-four elders fall on their faces before the throne of God and offer a prayer of thanksgiving. The judgment has not yet ended, and the world has not yet been renewed, but in heaven the reign of God is already proclaimed. Their thanksgiving is a confession of faith, an acknowledgment that even amid ongoing chaos, God’s rule has already begun.
The gratitude we find in Scripture is not the emotional relief that follows a favorable outcome but a declaration born of faith. It is easy to give thanks when our desires are fulfilled, but true thanksgiving, the kind that arises when nothing seems certain, is only possible through the grace of God. Such gratitude emerges when we believe that God is working beyond the boundaries of time, even in this very moment.
Life in faith often reshapes our sense of time. It is not bound to the straight line of past, present, and future. There are moments when those distinctions collapse when all times converge and we touch the timelessness of God. I believe God gathers the scattered points of our human time and weaves them into a single plane, a space filled with meaning. In that meeting point where the unseen future illuminates the present and the distant past returns as living light, thanksgiving flows forth.
Though the world still trembles and the echoes of judgment have not fully ceased, the eyes of faith continue to look toward the throne of God. His reign has never stopped. Even in the gaps of time, His order holds. And so today, I stand before Him with a heart of gratitude. The truth that God holds all of time in His hands strengthens me again. I give thanks to God, because in the end, everything is gratitude.
