한강잠실공원엔 사람은 없고 참새만 -14℃의 혹한 즐겨

People are not seen in the Hangang Jamsil Park, but sparrows enjoy the freezing cold of –14℃  

걸어서 10분 거리라, 나는 집 뒤뜰처럼 한강잠실공원 산책을 때 없이 즐겨한다. 2023. 01. 24일 오늘도 그랬다. 공원에 가니 시계탑 온도가 영하14℃였다. 올 들어 가장 추운 날씨였다.

It's a 10-minute on foot, so I enjoy taking a walk in the Hangang Jamsil Park  like the backyard of my house. Today(Jan. 24, 2023) was the same. When I went to the park, the temperature of the clock tower was -14℃. It was the coldest of the year.     

봄, 여름, 가을에는 공원은 산책하는 사람들로 북적이는 데 오늘은 사람이 안 보였다. 대신 새들의 천국이었다. 까치, 참새, 그리고 이름 모르는 새들이 추위를 아랑곳 하지 않고 평소처럼  날아 다녔다.  

The park was crowded with people taking walks in spring, summer and autumn,, but today there were few people. Instead, it was a paradise for birds. Magpies, sparrows, and unknown birds flew as usual regardless of the icy cold.

나는 옷을 겹겹이 껴입었지만 추웠다. 그러나 참새는 매서운 추위가 아무렇지도 않다는 듯 떼로 모여서 먹이를 쪼아 먹으며 오히려 영하의 혹한을 즐겼다. 

그러는 새들을 바라보며 혼자 중얼거렸다.

‘너희가 나 보다 지혜롭구나. 오늘 같은 강추위를 천하나 걸치지 않고도 즐길 수 있다니! 그 비결을 가르쳐 줄 수 없니?’

I wore layers of clothes, but I felt cold. However, the sparrows gathered in groups and pecked at their prey, as if they were okay with the bitter cold, and rather enjoyed the freezing cold below 0℃.    

Looking at the birds like that, I muttered to myself.

‘You are wiser than me. How amazing you can enjoy the cold weather like today without wearing a single piece of cloth! Can't you tell me the secret?’ 

이 분야의 전문가들이 연구를 하여 새들이 추위를 타지 않거나 여름엔 비를 맞아도 잘 젖지 않는 비결을 알아내서 우리 생활에 이용했으면 한다. 지금 인류가 누리는 문명의 이기 가운데는 옛날엔 상상도 할 수 없었던 것들이 얼마나 많은가! 

I hope that experts in this field will conduct research to find out the secret of birds not getting cold in winter, and getting wet even if they get rained on in summer. In addition to this, it is hoped that the found secret will be used in our lives. How many are things that people couldn't even imagine in the past among the advantageous facilities of the civilization that mankind enjoys now!

덧붙임1(Addition 1): 꽁꽁 언 한강(Frozen Han River)

어제에 이어 오늘(2023.01.25)도 한강잠실공원에 갔다. 간 밤의 강추위에 한강이 꽁꽁 얼어 있었다. 겨울다운 맛이 났다.

Following yesterday, I went to Hangang jamsil park today(2023.01.25). Hangang was frozen hard in the deadly cold last night. It tasted like winter.

덧붙임2(Addition2): 설원(雪原)으로 변한 한강(Han River turned into a snow-field)

연이어 3일째 한강잠실공원에 갔다. 꽁꽁 언 한강이 하얀 눈이 쌓여 아름다운 설원으로 변해 있었다. 아름답고 멋졌다.

I went to Hangang Jamsil Park today, the third day in a row,. The frozen Hangang was turned into a snowfield covered with white snow. It was so much beautiful and wonderful.
