I won't carry(take) you a pick-a-back
I won't take(carry) you wherever you say
I won't not even shod with gold
Nor harnessed to the wind's three wheeled chariot
Nor bridled with the rainbow's bridle
You can't buy me (Don't try to buy me)
I won't not even with my feet in my pocket
Nor threaded through a needle nor tied in a knot
Nor reduced to a ordinary(simple) rod
You can't scare me (Don't try to scare me)
I won't not even distilled or double-distilled* (grilled nor twice grilled)
Nor(Neither) raw nor salted
I won't not even in a dream
Don't kid yourself
It's not on I won't
(Vasko Popa Selected Poems, translated by Anne Pennington, Penguin Books, 1969)

I wont carry you piggyback
I won't take you where you tell me
Even if I were shod in gold
Even if I were harnessed to three wheels
On the cart of the wind
Even if I were bridled to a rainbow
Don't try to grease my palm
I won't even with my feet in my pocket
Threaded through a needle tied into a knot
Or whittled into a simple stick
Don't try to scare me
I won't even roasted or overroasted
Raw or salted
Not even in a dream
Don't go on kidding yourself
It doesn't work I won't
(Homage to the lame wolf, translated by Charles Simic, Oberlin College Press, 1987)

Nemoj da me kupuješ
Neću ni s nogama u džepu
Ni udenut u iglu ni vezan u čvor
Ni sveden na običan prut
Nemoj da me plašiš
Neću ni pečen ni prepečen
Ni presan posoljen
Neću ni u snu
Nemoj da se zavaravaš
Ništa ne pali neću

Note:
*'distilled or double-distilled' : prepecen literally means 'double-roasted', but is generally used in the context of brandy making. Prepecenica is the best, 'double-distilled' brandy; many peasants, however, also make the much less fiery mekarakija('mild brandy'), which is only distilled once.
