검은 새 들판의 만찬*
모두 투명한 테이블에 앉아
서로의 심장 속 별**을 본다
왕관 쓴 이가 깨뜨려서 나눈다
그들의 금빛 과거를
그리고 그들은 그것을 먹는다
그는 그들의 흰 모란 잔에 따른다
그들의 루비(紅玉)색 미래를***
그리고 그들은 그것을 마신다
테이블 아래 무릎에 걸친
그들의 칼은 조용히 으르렁거린다
테이블 위의 접시에는
반사된다 저녁 하늘과
그 하늘 속 내일 전투의 끝이
한 검은 새가
왕관 쓴 이의 오른손으로 날아 내려와
그의 노래를 시작한다
SUPPER ON THE BLACKBIRD'S FIELD
All sit at table transparent
And see the stars in each others' hearts
The crowned one breaks and shares out
Their golden past
And they eat it
He pours into their white peony goblets
Their ruby future
And they drink it
Across their knees under the table
Their swords are growling quietly
In the platters on the table
Is reflected the evening sky
And in the sky the end of tomorrow's battle
A blackbird flies down
On to the crowned one's right hand
And begins his song

*The banquet on the eve of the battle occurs in several folk epics; note also the parellels with Christ's Last Supper.
**'the stars in each others': the stars were held to be the souls of the dead.
***'Their ruby future': one legend tells how, just before the battle, Prince Lazar was asked to choose between an earthly and a heavenly empire - and he chose the latter, sealing his and his warriors' earthly fate. (시집 주, 414쪽)
