성 사바 그의 샘에서*
그는 본다
그 돌 속 그의 세 번째 눈을
공평한 물에서 본다
탐스럽게 익은 배로 가득했던
그의 약탈당한 관(棺)을**
그의 늑대의 머리를 본다
그리고 그 이마 위에
약속된 새로운 별자리의 표지를
그의 꽃 피는 지팡이를 본다
그리고 발그레한 새싹으로
지금 행복하게 비옥한 그의 땅을
두 눈을 감고
그 돌 속 세 번째 눈으로 본다
ST SAVA AT HIS SPRING
He looks
At his third eye in the stone
He sees in the impartial water
His pillaged coffin
Full of ripe big-bosomed pears
He sees his wolf-head
And on its brow the sign
Of the promised new constellation
He sees his flowering staff
And his land now happily fertile
In the flushed buds
He closes two eyes
And looks with the third eye in the stone

St. Sava at His Spring
He sees his third eye
Inside a stone
Sees in the righteous water
His plundered coffer
Full of ripe teat-like pears
Sees his wolf's head
And on the forehead the inscribed sign
Of the newly promised constellation
Sees his staff break into blossom
And his happily fertile earth
With its deeply blushing buds
Two of his eyes he closes
With a third he stares into a stone

Note:
*'St sava at His Spring' (sveti Sava na svom izvoru) could also mean 'St Sava at His Source/Origin'.
**'His pillaged coffin': after the historical St Sava's death, his bones were removed to the monastery of Milesevo, which became a place of pilgrimage and a focus of Serbian consciousness. They were removed by the Turks in 1594 and burnt publicly on Vracar Polje ('The Apothecaries' Field') in Belgrade. (시집 주, 413-414쪽)
