검은 새 들판의 전투
노래하며 들판을 말달린다
무장한 화룡과 마주치기 위해
우리의 가장 사랑스러운 늑대 목자
손에는 꽃 피는 지팡이
그의 흰 말을 타고 공중을 날아다닌다
미친 목마른 무기들
들판에서 서로서로 흉포하게 공격하네
치명상을 입은 쇠에서
우리 피의 강이 흘러나오네
위로 흘러 태양으로 흘러드네
들판은 우리 바로 밑에서 똑바로 일어선다
우리는 천상의 기수(騎手)와
우리의 약혼한 별들을 추월한다
그리고 함께 우리는 창공을 뚫고 난다
저 아래에서부터 따라오네
검은 새의 이별 노래
THE BATTLE ON THE BLACKBIRD'S FIELD
Singing we ride over the field
To encounter the armoured dragons
Our most lovely wolf shepherd
His flowering staff in his hand
Flies through the air on his white steed*
The crazed thirsty weapons
Savage each other alone in the field
From the mortally wounded iron
A river of our blood streams out
Flows upward and streams into the sun
The field stands up erect beneath us
We overtake the heavenly rider
And our betrothed stars**
And together we fly through the blue
From below there follows
The blackbird's farewell song

*Popa has merged St Sava with Svetovid, known as 'the White', the Slav god of light and battle, who rides through the sky on a horse.
