이스라엘 주요 일간지 ‘하아레츠’가 가자전쟁에서 이스라엘 공격으로 사망한 젊은 가자인들의 생전 유언장을 ‘우리 이름을 기억하라’ 제목으로 공개 보도했다.

‘하아레츠(HAARETZ)’는  <'우리의 이름을 기억하라': 망각을 두려워하는 젊은 가자인들은 죽기 전에 마지막 유언을 기록했다> 제목 기사에서 <집을 떠나지 않는 축구 선수, 정치 의식을 높이고 싶은 경제학자, 사후에도 콘텐츠를 계속 제공하는 영화 제작자. 그들은 전쟁이 시작된 이래 가자지구에서 사망한 40,000명 중 한 명이다>며 <많은 사람들은 죽음보다 더 큰 두려움을 느꼈고, '그저 숫자에 불과한 존재'가 되는 것을 두려워했고, 자신들이 잊혀지지 않도록 하기 위한 조치를 취했다>고 사망자가 이스라엘군 공격으로 사망전 남긴 유언장을 인물 사진과 함께 상세히 20일 보도했다.

기사는 가자지구 젊은 청년이 이스라엘군의 민간인 주택에 대한 공격으로 다른 세명과 함께 사망했고 그가 남긴 페이스북의 유언장 소개로 시작된다.

팔레스타인 국가 대표팀으로 여러 번의 승리에 참여하고 2016-2019시즌에 사우디 축구팀 알 숄라에서 뛴 것이 마지막 승리였던 모하메드 바라캇(Mohammed Barakat)은 자신이 살던 칸 유니스(Khan Yunis) 지역 폭격의 3월 11일 사망했다.

39세의 바라캇은 그 자리에서 사망했다. 그는 국제적인 경력을 가진 축구 선수로서 일종의 지역 유명인사였다. 

가족들과 같이 피신하지 않고 집에 남았던 그는 자신이 죽은 다음 날을 위해 미리 준비해 두었다.

팔레스타인 축구협회가 공개한 아랍어 영상에서 그는 카메라를 바라보며 "나는 어려운 상황에 처해 있다"고 말했다. 그는 총성과 폭탄 소리를 배경으로 "이것이 나의 마지막 발언이자 마지막 영상"이라고 말했다.

바라캇은 인간의 운명과 죽음, 그리고 알라가 인간에게 주는 시련과 시험을 다루는 수라 타가분(Surah Taghabun)의 코란 구절을 암송했다. 18절로 된 수라(sura) 안에는 타가분(Taghabun)이라는 개념이 심판의 날의 이름 중 하나로 언급되어 있다.

It was a time when the airstrikes were increasing the anxiety in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the center of the Gaza Strip. The young man's account from Gaza wrote, "What scares me most is that my death from Zionist attacks is mentioned as one of the increasing numbers by the minute." The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported this, politely referring to it as "martyrdom," saying, "A young man was martyred along with three others in an attack on a civilian home." The Facebook account before his death said, "This is my last will. I do not want to be another number. This war is slowly killing me. The silence of my children and the fear of my mother torment me. "I don't have any tears," it read.

In response, Haaretz reported that "the current war has only heightened Akel's fears and the urgency of his will. He has reuploaded his post and placed it at the top of the page."

The article continued that "nearly 10 months after the war began, the death toll in Gaza – according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health – has reached 40,000, a figure that does not distinguish between combatants and non-combatants," and that "with the high casualties so far and the ongoing Israeli offensive (Israeli officials say thousands of armed men have been assimilated into the local population), there is little doubt that the living will be next."

The article said of the wills left behind by Gazans, "That is why more and more Gazans are looking for ways to say goodbye in their own way." The 39-year-old Barakat died on the spot. He was a football player with an international career and a kind of local celebrity.

He had not fled with his family but had stayed at home, preparing in advance for the day after his death.

In an Arabic video released by the Palestinian Football Association, he looked into the camera and said, “I am in a difficult situation.” He said, “This is my last word and my last video,” against the backdrop of gunfire and the sound of bombs.

Barakat recited a verse from the Koran, Surah Taghabun, which deals with the fate and death of man and the trials and tests that Allah gives to man. The 18-verse sura contains: The concept of Taghabun is mentioned as one of the names of the Day of Judgment.

"I ask for your forgiveness," he said to the cameras. "Please pray for me. Mother and father, you are very dear to my heart. Haitham (his wife), my beloved children, I bid you farewell. Now that it is over, please continue to pray quietly."

Haaretz, an Israeli daily, published a report that day that said the photos and wills of the Gaza Strip dead were "still alive on Instagram."
