캐나다 대북제재로 일본 파병, 영국 해병대 파병 ‘장기 계획’

캐나다는 6일 유엔의 대북제재 지원으로 일본에 군용기 배치를 밝히고, 영국은 해병대의 한미연합훈련 참가에 ‘장기 계획’으로 밝혔다.

미국과 회담한 나토 사무총장은 기자회견에서 “한국이 어떤 방식으로, 또 누구에게 (탄약을) 전달해야 하는지에 대해서는 언급하지 않겠다”고 ‘탄약 증산’에 대해 말했다.

캐나다 아니타 아난드 국방장관은 6일 “네온 작전(Op) 하에 있는 캐나다 공군 CP-140 오로라 항공 파견대를 일본에 배치한다”며 “RCAF CP-140 오로라 항공 파견대는 승무원, 기술자 및 기타 임무 전문가를 포함하여 약 40명의 인원으로 구성되며, 사거리 7,400km의 첨단 센서가 장착된 CP-140 오로라는 작전 NEON에 적합한 탁월한 장거리 순찰기”라고 보도자료로 밝혔다.

영국 국방부는 5일 해병대 ‘코만도’가 한국전쟁 이후 처음으로 한반도에 파견돼 미한 연합상륙훈련 ‘쌍룡훈련’에 참여한 것은 장기적인 계획에 따른 것이라고 미국의소리(VOA)에 밝혔다.

영국 국방부 대변인은 이날 “영국은 전 세계 동맹과 파트너들과 일상적으로 협력하고 있으며, 한반도에서의 우리 훈련은 특정 사건에 대한 대응이라기보다는 장기적 계획의 결과(the result of long-term planning)”라며 “연합훈련을 통해 참여국들과의 통합을 심화할 수 있다”고 밝혔다.

영국 해병 코만도 브라보 중대 해병 40명은 지난달 22일부터 2일간의 포항시 인근 한미연합 수색훈련에 참가했고, 영국은 ‘유엔사 전력제공국’ 자격으로 파견했다고 밝혔다.

캐나다 국방부는 일본 파병에 대해 “CH-148 사이클론 헬리콥터를 탑재한 HMCS 몬트리올도 인도 태평양 지역으로 이동 중이며, 인도 태평양에서 캐나다의 해군 전진 주둔 작전인 Op NEON과 Op 프로젝트를 지원할 예정”이라며 “이번 배치는 캐나다가 인도 태평양 지역의 동맹국과 파트너국의 안보에 부여하는 가치와 유엔 안보리 대북 제재 유지의 중요성을 강조한다. 지역 평화, 회복력 및 안보에 대한 이러한 기여는 규칙 기반 국제 질서에 대한 캐나다의 약속을 계속 보여준다”고 밝혔다.

토니 블링컨 미 국무장관은 5일 브뤼셀에서 나토와 파트너국 외교장관회 기자회견에서 “무기 재고 보충하고 군대의 준비태세 강화하며, 나토 임무 및 작전 위한 병력 순환배치 약속을 충족하고 21세기 도전에 계속 맞설 수 있는 수단 갖추는 것이 중요하다”며 “일본과 호주 한국 뉴질랜드 참여를 환영했다”고 말했다고 VOA가 보도했다.kimjc00@hanmail.net
