Letting Go of the Obsession to Possess – Tuesday (02/25/2025)
How do you feel today?
Although my mind feels unsettled and my sleep quality was poor, leading to low energy, I am managing my emotions.
What do you want to do today?
Reading, exercising, and practicing becoming my ideal future self.
Good:
Yesterday, my emotions wavered because I failed to follow the 30-minute rule. A momentary disruption in my schedule made me anxious, and I completely failed to regulate my emotions. However, I reflect on this and acknowledge that I did my best to regain control.
Bad:
I realized that all this mental turmoil stemmed from my obsession with possessing something.
Lesson Learned:
If you don’t cling to the thoughts in your mind or the things you own, thinking, "This is mine; I don't want to let it go,"
If you don’t lament the absence of praise, love, or broken promises,
If you don’t attach yourself to what exists or grieve what doesn’t,
Then your mind will become invincible.
— From "The Words of Buddha"
Gratitude Journal:
I am sincerely grateful that I can start my day feeling healthy and refreshed, free from worries, and fill my time with the things I love.
Today’s Enjoyment:
One Thing: Assign meaning to the essence rather than to possession.
Keywords: Existence/Non-existence – Attachment – Mine – Not clinging – No lamenting absence = No sorrow = Invincible mind
Today’s Insight:
Then, suddenly, I shifted my perspective. Instead of focusing on owning something, I realized it was more important to ensure its happiness. Rather than obsessing over whether I could have it, the real question was whether I could find greater meaning through it.
As my mindset changed, my urgency disappeared like magic.
The desire to possess breeds obsession, but true love allows freedom.
You cannot grasp a flowing river, but you can watch it as it is.
You can pick a flower, but you can also cherish it as it blooms.
So instead of clutching onto something, I chose to admire and appreciate it more deeply.
Then, the turbulence within me began to settle.
As I let go of the need to control the flow, everything naturally fell into place.
