To You, Emotions Were a Threat

by Irene

You didn’t live seeing emotions as something to be felt,

but as something to be managed.

The moment you felt them, things could falter.

And the moment things faltered, results could collapse.

That’s why emotions always had to come last.

Cool-headedness, judgment, focus, drive —

these four were your weapons.

And to keep those weapons sharp,

emotions were always pushed to the back.

Emotions were a threat to you.

Whether it was business or a project,

you had to move with cold calculation.

The moment emotions intervened,

everything became uncertain.

So, you managed your emotions.

So they wouldn’t be felt. So you wouldn’t be shaken.

On the outside, you looked calm.

But inside, somewhere along the way,

emotions stopped coming altogether.

That was a natural consequence.

But now, it’s time to accept emotions

not as something to manage,

but as a part of your being.

The reason you no longer get swept away by emotions

isn’t because you don’t feel them anymore —

It’s because you’ve become strong enough to hold them.
